Freestyle Friday: Wax

This is one of my favorite freestyles ever (and yes, I know it was definitely written, but let's be honest, most "freestyles" are). I remember randomly stumbling upon this video on YouTube back in college and being blown away. I hear this kid got signed, and if that is true, what a great example of talent rising to the top.

Freestyle Friday: Delonte West KFC Freestyle

Two idiots stoned out of their minds waiting for their fast food and freestyling to pass the time. If I didn't know any better, I would have guessed this was a TradeMark and Kafka video from college.

Ed Sheeran - The A Team (Music Video)

I was already blown away by this song, but seeing the video takes it to an entirely different level. Just a powerful, emotional video. I haven't gotten this open watching a music video in... well, maybe ever. I can't speak highly enough about this.

Freestyle Friday: Joey Jihad and Reed Dollaz

I didn't do a Freestyle Friday last week because, well, frankly I forgot (and in true TradeMark fashion, nobody seemed to notice or care). So this week, we have a double feature.

Joey Jihad

Reed Dollaz vs. some jobber (Trigga)

That Reed video still cracks me up everytime.

Yeah, the whole Philly battle rapper thing got played out and kind of sad really fast, but for a few months there back in 06/07, this was the best free entertainment a man could possibly ask for.

Well, they did legalize it... (Cool inside jokes for potheads)

We were organizing the classroom library at work today, and I stumbled upon this gem in a book titled "C is for Colorado," an alphabetical guide to all the cool stuff you can see and do in the great state of Colorado...

...sometimes it's just too easy.

The Faint at The Trocadero

Got the chance to catch The Faint performing their Dance Macabre album at The Trocadero last night - pretty spectacular show. The showmanship was unreal, and the stage production with all of the stobe lights and lasers was really sick. It was almost on the level of a seizure-inducing Japanese cartoon. I'm not convinced that any of the band members were actually playing their instruments on stage, but who cares, right? As long as it sounds good. Check out some pics -

Throwback Thursday: Soulja Slim ft. Juvenile - Slow Motion

I was reminded of this song when T.I. made reference to it in his new single with Lil Wayne. I think it's called "Ball." It was then that I decided to make this forgotten classic my Throwback of the week. Then, this past weekend, through some bizarre serendipity, I heard "Slow Motion" on the radio down in Baltimore. Yup. It was an omen. R.I.P. Soulja Slim. This song was a rare example of 2000's-era Southern rap done right.

Vince McMahon is ribbing me again...

So it started way back in 2003 when WWE superstar Chris Nowinski adopted a character very similar to my high school backyard wrestling character, The Genius.

He even cut a promo on RAW one night where he debuted the catchphrase "brains over brawn," which was uncomfortably close to The Genius' catchphrase, "mind over matter." Of course, seeing as how there was no YouTube back in 2003, and those classic backyard wrestling videos were never actually published online, I could excuse this theft of my intellectual property and write it off as a coincidence (especially considering that "The Genius" was, in fact, a ripoff of an old Lanny Poffo gimmick).

The plot thickened, however, when Brodus Clay re-debuted as the disco dancing "Funkasaurus." Complete with the tagline "the last known Funkasaurus in captivity."

Hmm. My "Swaggasaurus" song included the chorus line "the last of my kind." And this time, unlike the Chris Nowinski incident, my song and music video were very much online, and would have certainly attracted wrestling types with all of the references to Ric Flair, Razor Ramon, Buff Bagwell, Christian, etc. Now I'm getting suspicious.

So last night on RAW, comedy jobber Brad Maddox introduced a new gimmick. Yup, you guessed it, "The Brad Maddox Experience."

He is a big-mouthed blowhard with an over-inflated ego, dare I say, a god complex. So much so that his Twitter handle is @BradMaddoxIsWWE. Long time TradeMark fans will know that the entire early TradeMark persona was essentially me playing this kind of character.

Look, Vince - I'm flattered. But if you really love my gimmicks so much, just give me a call. We can work something out. RAW will be in Philly on December 17th, and you've got a few guys right now who could use a mouthpiece (Mason Ryan, I'm looking at you, man). In the meantime, if Jack Swagger re-debuts as "The Archduke of Johnson and Johnson," I'm getting in touch with Kafka and we'll see you in court...

A New Day (Trailer coming tomorrow!)

Was in the studio tonight recording my new single, A New Day. Can't tell you guys how excited I am to drop this - it hasn't felt this good being in the booth in a long time. Until then, expect a teaser video tomorrow. The Revival, baby... this is more than just a new direction. This is a movement.

My Anniversary Gift

Wooo!!!

I love my girlfriend. She knows me so well. For our two-year anniversary, not only does she get me a replica World Heavyweight Championship title belt (which is a great gift in and of itself), but she gets me a replica World Heavyweight Championship title belt signed by Sting, Arn Anderson, Lex Luger, Tully Blanchard, and... Ric FUCKING Flair. Wooo!!! Time to start saving up for that ring...

Oh, and to all my challengers out there, remember - to be the man, you gotta beat the man. And I'm... the man.

B-Baz - The Seed (prod. by The TradeMark Experience)

Lead single off "Vol. 2: Exodus". Produced by The TradeMark Experience. Album art by Tunji Ige

B-Baz is one of the many artists who will be featured on my upcoming compilation project, The Revival.

Freestyle Friday: Cassidy

I'm bringing back one of the more popular features from my old blog, Freestyle Friday, and I've decided to start things off with one of my favorite freestyles ever:

This video gets bonus points for E. Ness playing the most enthusiastic hype man ever over Cassidy's shoulder. I had the pleasure of meeting and performing with Ness back in 2008 at Fluid Nightclub. He's a really nice guy - smoked a blunt with him after my set. He "loved my energy."

Man, I was riding Cassidy's nuts so hard after seeing this for the first time that I actually tried to BECOME Cassidy. Like, blatant swagger jacker shit. (Hey, at least I can admit it.) I even tried taking some of the lines from his freestyle and flipping them into my own. Check out this rare freestyle battle video from 2007 against fellow Muhlenberg alumni Dan McGee, who would later evolve into NYC underground artist Albert Rhymestein:

Only the gulliest white rappers rock cargo sweats. Ya heard?!

In my defense (sort of), I was really, really messed up on, well... some bad stuff that night. And, to be fair, I was at least trying to actually battle by throwing disses at my opponent, who was really just going off on some stream-of-consciousness-words-that-sound-pretty-together-but-not-really-saying-anything style flow, but still, not my finest hour by any means. Just another chapter in the strange evolution of The TradeMark Experience.

(EDIT: After watching that Muhlenberg freestyle video again, I actually don't think I did that badly at all - that Brad Pitt/Elephant Man line was pretty tough, haha. I also realize now that Dan actually was throwing some good disses at me, I was probably just too fucked up that night or my ego was too bruised to remember it that way, ha. For the record though, my friend, I wasn't spitting anything written - that was all off the top, you have my word.)

Announcing the official relaunch of the official relaunch of thetrademarkexperience.com! Your NEW(er) home for all things TTRRAAADEMAAARRRKKK!!! Big thanks to David DuPree and Antwan Carr for their assistance in getting the site back up.

I do it all for the kids, mang...

I <3 Book Day. Had an awesome time hanging out with the little ones today at A.S. Jenks. Can't wait until next year!

This is Ryan - he got his own solo picture since he wrote my invitation letter. Obviously I wasn't told what camera to look at - oh well.

Mrs. Graham's 4th grade class!

We also got to watch the "Fill It In" PSSA music video - which apparently is a big hit with the 4th graders, since we had to watch it twice. I even got to lead the class in a sing-along as I stumbled to remember my own lyrics.

Book Day

One of the cooler parts of being TradeMark is getting the invite every year to participate in "Book Day" at my old Elementary School, A.S. Jenks. I get to stand next to Fire Chiefs, News Anchors, Superintendents, Chio from Wired 96.5, etc. and made like I'm an actual public figure - but more importantly, I get to spend time with some awesome 4th grade students in the same classroom where I went to 4th grade, promoting a pretty decent message that "reading is cool." Hey, if a pseudo-locally-famous white rapper tells you that reading is awesome, it's gotta be true, right?
